This is the second most important if not most important thing about role playing. Your character(s) will determine what language you use while writing a post, tone of posts, and basically your role playing experience.
Things to keep in mind while creating a character.
1. While writing a history for your first character, look at your own history. What things impacted your life? What were important events in your life? I'm not saying to completely copy it but, looking at your own or a friends history can be very helpful
2. For your first character it is much easier to role play with a character that has a similar personality to your own. If your a quite person, it will be easier for you to play a quieter character. Just believe me, it's easier to play a character similar to you. Once you get more advanced, you will find that you have "muse" for characters who are almost completely opposite from your own personality.
3. Make sure the character is "playable". Playing a character with a mental disease is perfectly acceptable here on Nikkita but, you must portray the mental disease accurately. If your character has chronic depression and they are happy almost all the time, that isn't going to fly well with others. This goes hand and hand with being able to handle a character. If you don't know how to play a depressed character, you will get frustrated and probably end up getting rid of the character.
