This is the most important thing about role playing ( other than making your character which is a close second).
Basics
1. Write with good grammar. It is beyond frustrating when an entire paragraph is just one long sentence.
2. Run a spell check if your computer doesn't do it automatically. Writing with many spelling errors makes others not want to role play with you.
3. Make sure your post is of a decent size. Here on Nikkita, we do not have a minimum word count but, if you start to wright 100 words or less per post, not many people will want to post with you. A good rule of thumb is to try to get close to if not more than the person who posted before you.
4. Wright with good description. Always try to incorporate all of the five senses in your posts.
5. Show and don't tell. Instead of writing " He was sad," you should wright " He felt a tear coming to his eye as his face began to warm up and his lip began to tremble."
Action Scenes
1. You cannot assume that your character hit, bit, scratched another persons character. That other person still has the choice of having their character dodge the attack. Example: Bob's paw cut threw the air and it was aimed right at Jeff's face.
2. Don't over act. You shouldn't have your character do to many attacks in one post. Example of what NOT to do: Bob drew out his claws and opened his mouth ad if the bite Jeff in the ear and then Bob turned around as if to smack Jeff in the face with his tail. See? that was a run on sentence and it didn't leave any room for Jeff to react.
Conversations
1. You cannot assume that another character wants to talk to your character or what his or her response is going to be.
2. You may, however; have your character say more than one thing in a post. Like, you can have your character ask a question and then after some more writing, they can comment on the weather or the scenery or whatever else your character might say.
Staying in character This is the most important thing when writing a post by far.
1. I found it easiest to stick with a character that best fit my personality when I first started role playing.
2. If your character is a very solitary, they are probably not going to react well when four strangers start a conversation with them.
3. Sometimes it helps to re-read their bio if you feel like you are not posting in character very well.
4. You must stay away from changing your whole character's attitude in a thread if another character doesn't like them. Not all people get along, not all characters get along. Stick with your muse.
5. Although no character is completely good or completely evil, generally a "nice" character isn't going to plot to take over the world but, they could yell at another character.
6. Remember, personalities rarely change except after traumatic experiences. So, if your character is very solemn, they will probably never be excited over much and even if they are, they wouldn't show it on the outside.
